Priapism

The term "priapism" is used by doctors to indicate a prolonged and painful erection that is not associated with sexual desire. A list of the most common causes of this condition is represented by the injuries of the genital organs, inflammatory processes, reception of certain medicines, abuse of alcohol and other psychoactive substances, blood diseases (leukemia, sickle cell anemia, etc.) and sexually transmitted diseases.

Types of priapism

Long-lasting erection can be ischemic and not ischemic (with weak and normal blood flow).

Ischemic. Development is caused by sickle-cell disease, leukemia, anticoagulants (reduce blood clotting), fat embolism, spinal cord lesions, autonomic neuropathy and malignant inflammation of the penis. Ischemic priapism is accompanied by the onset of spontaneous erection without sexual excitation, pain in the region of the member and the hardening of his body while maintaining the softness of the head.

Non-ischemic. The appearance is caused by injury of the penis and/or perineum. Such constant erection is characterized by rapid blood flow which physically has not time to flow away. In this acute situation requires immediate surgical intervention. The lack of timely action is fraught with the onset of persistent erectile dysfunction.

Treatment of priapism

In the case of ischemic type the doctor performs the examination with the aim of establishing the true causes permanent erection that must be addressed in the course of further treatment. First, the problem of trying to decide exclusively limited to non-surgical methods. To do this, in conjunction with other measures recommended in the sessions of hirudotherapy, the acceptance of traditional medicines (e.g. tinctures of hops, etc.) and special diet that involves exclusion from the diet of cloves, pepper, cinnamon and other spices that enhance male potency and allows you to go from a state of "fast finish", while adding in dishes and marinades coriander, sage, tarragon, tarragon. In the absence of the results of nonsurgical treatment requires surgical intervention.

The danger and treatment of priapism

In the event of an erection lasting more than 4 hours, should seek urological help. Delaying the visit to the doctor is dangerous, that due to the stay in the excited state unnaturally long penis "comes out" of the circulatory system – the blood stagnation leads to the beginning of oxygen starvation. The longer cloth "wipe" oxygen, the more severe degenerative changes are exposed to their cells. Priapism for three days accompanied by irreversible damage to the penile tissues, which occurs not only loss of erectile function, but also necrosis (necrosis).
